Built in 1980, Shorebreeze was acquired by MidPen Housing in 1997 and originally consisted of 120 affordable apartments for families and seniors on a five-acre site in Mountain View, California. Building upon its success, MidPen’s expansion of Shorebreeze includes the renovation of 108 of the original apartments and construction of 62 brand new apartments on an underutilized portion of the site, delivering a net gain of 50 affordable homes—all on the original site footprint.
This GreenPoint Rated community provides solar thermal, improved site landscaping, and replacement of the windows and sliders on the 108 original apartments. An expanded community room, computer lab, fitness center, children’s playground and courtyard support the professional onsite services offered by MidPen Services to deliver financial capabilities and professional development courses; health and wellness programs and onsite health screenings; computer classes; independent living classes for seniors; and academically-based after school and summer programs for youth.
